@neiltyson computer math implementations have 'Not a Number' as a result. Use NaN in arithmetic the result is NaN. NaN is infectious. -
@DJSnM@neiltyson NaN is delicious with curry.

@neiltyson@johnallenpaulos I thought it's 'infinity', no? -
@evertp@neiltyson relevant Video explaining why dividing by zero isn't infinity. Plus some extras. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRRolKTlF6Q … -

@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos sincere question, why not n/0=0, in harmony with multiplying by zero? -
@jacobstevens@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos any number*0=0, when you divide by 0 Any number is a possible answer. Thus n/0 is undefined. -
@garycecs@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos thanks, great explanation.

@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos Just invent a number, like we did for root -1. Call 1/0 'q' and then we can all get on with things. -
@Cyzaki@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos can't be done, or you would contradict math axioms for real numbers. -
@Aupeza@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos I know :-( Fun to try though!

@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos Agreed. In the meantime, one can use extended complex numbers (extending the complex plane by an ideal element)Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
