@neiltyson Thanks for taking a stand. This is not at all a super bizarre opinion to form about a completely benign thing.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@neiltyson@Ebonyteach But not all non-fiction is truth. -
.
@schanoes@neiltyson What I like about nonfiction is that inherent in that very word is the power -- and the primacy -- of *story.* -
@Ebonyteach@neiltyson Yes, & and it acknowledges that for ex. self-help manuals, or memoirs, or political manifestos, aren't nec. "truth." -
@schanoes@neiltyson "Whose truth is this? Truth for *whom*?" I come from a culture whose truths, facts, & info are routinely attacked. -
@Ebonyteach@neiltyson Exactly. And what else has to be true for THIS to be "truth"? -
@schanoes I was drawn to the humanities because I really like humans and find them fascinating. (Too bad they're undervalued today.) -
@Ebonyteach I was a sociology major as an undergrad. Thought I would be an activist. +

@neiltyson Ah, but "nonfiction" is usually not the truth. Nonfiction works can be completely speculative or even patently false.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@neiltyson I've written nonfiction, and wouldn't call it "truth". It's just my version of stuff I didn't make up.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

As if fiction isn't true? “
@neiltyson: Never liked the term nonfiction. Truth should have its own word, & not be shackled to its antonym.” -
@JMCaler@neiltyson It's disturbing how many of the respondents suggest "fact" as alternative, as if facts are self ordering into narrative
