    If multiples of 10 were hard & multiples of 8 were easy, I wonder if we’d observe Kennedy’s death after 48 yrs instead of 50.

        Or @neiltyson, maybe not at all. Lee Harvey Oswald w/ one fewer finger on each hand might've been a lousier shot.

        @neiltyson Multiples of 8 would be easy if we were brought up using a base 8 system.

        @neiltyson 64 is a much "rounder" number "100" in octal, so that's where we'd do it. :)

        @neiltyson more likely 32 and 64 since they'd be 40 and 100 in octal, respectively. 50 would hold no special significance.

        @neiltyson 40 (base ten) years, more likely. That’s 50 in base eight, half way to 100.

        @neiltyson Don't panic. Base 8 is just like Base 10 really. If you're missing two fingers #tomLehrerRules

        @neiltyson Base 10 makes little sense other than having 10 fingers. But, EVERY number system is self described as "base 10". #ProTip

        @valeriemeachum @neiltyson Only a short step from octal to binary - humanity w/ 8 fingers might have had clockwork computers centuries ago.
