@neiltyson Isn't that more of a biology thing, not physics?

@joshuamneff@neiltyson Biology is applied physics. Conservation of mass doesn't change. -
@StarshipTech@neiltyson But it's possible to overeat & not be overweight. And it's possible to be overweight without overeating. -
@joshuamneff@StarshipTech@neiltyson But doesn't the term "overeating" imply that you're eating too much? And that causes overweight? -
@djannih
@StarshipTech@neiltyson Eating too much doesn't necessarily cause one to be overweight. There are different factors involved. -
@joshuamneff @djannih@neiltyson Yeah... like conservation of energy. That's why exercising matters. This is mostly semantics at this point. -
@StarshipTech @djannih@neiltyson Metabolism also matters. Not everyone burns calories the same. Food intake & weight are not a constant. - 1 more reply

@neiltyson Really? After the@matingmind thing? Do we need to bring a doctor in to talk to you about thyroids and metabolism disorders? -
@rocza I suspect that@neiltyson is naively defines "overeat" as "eat enough calories to produce adiposity", w/o respect to other factors. -
@Dr24hours@neiltyson I do, too, but after the@matingmind fiasco, it's REMARKABLY tone deaf -
@rocza@matingmind Can you fill me in with that fiasco, out of curiosity? - End of conversation
