.@dailybreadman: Does a fly on an airplane add weight if the fly never lands? // Yup. The weight of the air goes up.

@neiltyson would adding a mixture of helium to airplane cabins make flights cheaper AND more entertaining?

@neiltyson So, if you're in a sealed box with a weight somehow held in suspension and a scale, would the scale pick up the weight's weight?

@neiltyson If I leave soy sauace out it goes into cube-ish crystals. Why isn't it hexagonal? I thought hexagons were pretty rad, physically.

@neiltyson What about space that fly takes? If fly never lands, increase in weight is (fly's weight - air weight that could have been there)

@neiltyson @dailybreadman nm, I just remembered. Not more, bc when it's flying it's placing an equal force to the air beneath it.

@neiltyson @dailybreadman Weight is the gravitational attraction between masses. This is the downward force of air movement from the wings.

@neiltyson weight from the fly being in the cabin itself adds to the weight equal to the amount of air is displaced because it never lands?
