There's a correlation with religion there.

If people spent an hour each week studying the natural laws of the universe rather than going to church...

-
Wouldn't that be beautiful?
-
It would be indeed. The world would be less tribal, and people would both be more knowledgeable and tolerant of others.
-
Just cause one learn science doesn’t make less likely to be who they are before not know science. They are plenty of smart well educated people, that still believe odd things i.e. “flat earth”. Know more of something doesn’t guarantee a “like minded” mentality.
-
The increased tolerance would come from the lack of religious tribes. Increased scientific knowledge doesn't abolish ignorance, but it does help.
-
What would it help with? At most it will stop you from thinking the earth were flat but most people don't think that anyway. One hour a week also wouldn't really make any difference in your knowledge. At least nothing that translates into living a happier life
-
Speak for yourself. I would be much happier if I lived amongst educated people, that talk about anything else than the virgin Mary or that Jesus Christ guy. Life is so beautiful, the world is amazing, politics is interesting, culture, travel, so many things to talk about!

Twain actually said "How easy it is to make people believe a lie, and hard it is to undo that work again!” in the 1906 autobiography (http://snopes.com ) but it still makes a nice saying.

Interesting. Thanks!

Sometimes I wonder if Cheryl, my ex-wife, is really happy with Gary, our son's soccer coach, or if that's a lie, too, like when she said she'd never leave me.
