A major problem with local govt in much of rural America is that the kind of motivated, intelligent people who are most needed in run-down places get the hell out and go live somewhere decent. So you end up with a county board full of car dealers and dim religious zealots. twitter.com/emayfarris/sta…

I was curious whatever happened to those guys, and it turns out that they just recently rebranded in disgrace after being caught lying about placement rates, misleading students, etc. - all the shit you would expect as a natural consequence of their model 6/

2. Lambda School, a #edtech start enough brave enough to ask the question, "What if the problem with higher ed is that it's not enough like sharecropping?" also made me briefly internet famous when their CEO was offended by a joke I made at his expense (see above) 5/

That said! Quick review of the last ~15 years or so: 1. Darren Rovell, he of "trying to get your buddy Neill kicked out of school 2 years after he completed his PhD" fame, hasn't been seen on ESPN in years and apparently writes for something called The Action Network now 3/

Alright, getting ready to shut this down at long last. There were plenty of bright lines that should have led me to do it sooner, but in the end what did it for me was Elmo reinstating MIKE F'ING FLYNN a couple of weeks ago. Sorry, that's a hard pass from me buddy

Your periodic reminder that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has the authority to eliminate debt ceiling drama and assure financial markets about the integrity of U.S. government debt by minting a trillion-dollar platinum coin.

I hate this woman with the heat of a thousand suns, and… this doesn’t sound that bad, especially by DC standards. Like, while I’m only a lowly Platinum Pro on AA, I follow the exact same decision rule on booking seats on the plane. 🤷‍♂️

I got my hands on a 37-page guide for Kyrsten Sinema’s staff Aides weren’t only expected to get her groceries and fix her internet but follow a… very detailed set of instructions about where to seat her on an airplane. Lots more here: thedailybeast.com/the-incredible

I dunno man maybe go be the mayor of a city that doesn't have a massive statue telling people to migrate there

#BREAKING: NYC Mayor Eric Adams warns New Yorkers: "Every service we provide is going to be impacted by the influx of migrants in our city. It's going to impact education. It's going to impact the dollars we use to clean our streets. It's going to impact our public safety."

Am still continually fascinated by the NYT's devotion to crooked speech. Not "alternative points of view," but complete bullshit for-profit hokum peddled by mercenary saboteurs. Nothing about this piece stands up to even a cursory read. Like, no editor actually read this thing.

This is one of the most insane things I have ever read, a stunning case of one's personal opinion being so entrenched that it completely obliterates the ability to recalibrate when confronted with new information. nytimes.com/2022/12/20/opi

The Omnibus also addresses what was a potential looming issue for Medicare beneficiaries who get #COVID19 - that Part D doesn't cover treatments under emergency use authorization (e.g., Paxlovid). This would be fixed this through 2024.
