Reminder to Elementary OS folks that trying to make a ‘Mac OS killer’ from Linux takes more than picking a pretty wallpaper. Great idea, although: This is a fatal error. 😔

This chimpanzee is using the Instagram UI better than I ever did. He even figured out the side swipe for back ... I actually did not know that.

More: Dev.12 features, Patron-only commentary on where they lead to, and about the future. Cheers to a new release 🙂

At the Center for Humane Technology event. On the low chance there are any Aether people here, come say hi 🙂 From the way the invite came over to me, I hope / suspect P2P might be a part of the plan. Excited.

I look forward to the day when we no longer have to add the term “accessible” to phrases like “UI Patterns” and “experiences” and “components” because being accessible is implied by default as it becomes the standard and only way to build for the Web.

We heard you before and we heard you now. Every vote will count on Tuesday, D66 will vote against articles 11 and 13 and against the entire directive if they do not get voted down ↘️

One tip for good copywriting I discovered: write it on your phone. I tend to be too verbose when given a full size keyboard, but on a phone it’s instinctively shorter and to the point.

Hypothesis: If you keep your source code as short as possible, you will in the process reduce it to the "Legos" your idea is comprised of, and when you need to add something, you will usually be able to using those Legos plus at most a few new ones.

One problem with microservices that I have: everything ends up somehow dependent on the authentication service. How do you get around that?

Aether is also written in Go, and I can echo the sentiment that is is a very, very, *very* boring language. No gotchas, no surprises, just a tiny, dependable work horse. Rust would have worked as well, but Go was just easier to grok at first, so I went with that one. Happy.

Cloudflare moves a part of their infra to Rust: NPM moves a part of their infra from JS to Rust (!!) Both tried Go and Rust, and picked Rust over cosmetic concerns. Happy to hear Rust and Go are emerging clear winners in 2019.

It also appears that you in fact cannot buy internet from Comcast without buying streaming. I hope whenever net neutrality comes back, it'll be applied retroactively. 🙂

Heads up, if you try to downgrade your service, they will add a 30-day free streaming service on your bill without asking. When you ask for what happens after 30 days... Well, see for yourself.

Aether is on the front page of Hacker News (again). Hit me up if you have any questions there — those things end up as AMAs for the most part.
