.@bartongellman if you’re honestly interested in hearing our side, email me. tweeting links from misinformed 3rd parties is not a dialog.
.@danstuckey @Whisper I’m glad you were able to see for yourself how seriously we take user privacy.
.@danstuckey @Whisper yes. You cannot post any IDing info on whisper. It is automatically deleted. It violates our TOS.
The Guardian’s latest piece adds absolutely nothing new and continues to get many facts wrong. If you have a question, ask me.
ICYMI: Here is Whisper’s original response to The Guardian’s accusations. There are many misconceptions out there: https://www.scribd.com/doc/243241082/Responses-for-Guardian …
Please continue sending me your questions. The Guardian article is riddled with outright lies and made up quotes. Happy to debunk them all.
Putting the tweetstorm on pause to address some FAQs.
.@taoeffect @Whisper @lizzadwoskin again, “user data” consists of the number of times suicide was mentioned on the service. Nothing more.
.@taoeffect @lizzadwoskin because we, like most, would like to see the suicide rate among our servicemembers go down.
Trying to answer a million questions at once, but please keep sending them to me.
20/At no point during their visit were Guardian reporters shown anything not already approved by top brass &used by Guardian in pub’d pieces
19/Guardian reporters visited Whisper with the explicitly stated intent of using methods reviewed & approved by top brass for newsgathering
18/Following visit, Guardian CEO suggested to Whisper that Guardian embed 2 reporters @ HQ for explicit purpose of gathering news from users
17/To sum: Guardian independently pubs multiple pieces using Whisper & the methods it is now decrying; CEO visits Whisper, exclaims support.
16/Both the CEO and the Executive Editor openly exclaimed their support for Whisper and, specifically, the newsgathering work it is doing.
15/The Guardian’s CEO, Executive Editor, & other top brass visited Whisper HQ in June, and were given a full demonstration of Whisper’s CMS.
14/The Guardian knew & was fully supportive of Whisper’s newsgathering effort, including a map that shows FUZZED locations from OPT IN users
.@bartongellman @ashk4n tThe DoD study consists exclusively of aggregated word mentions from users who OPTED IN to location.
