Can't we find a use for the crop residue? Maybe use it in some thermal power plant. I don't know, but I think making money out of waste would be the only long term solution.

@capt_amarinder such endeavors need huge initial investments, which only govt. can provide....their r other solutions also, diversification to crops which dont leave such amounts of disposable residues, their govt. marketing system has failed...

The problem is that they are growing wheat after a season of rice. It automatically creates disease. You need to grow a different crop family like vegetables potatoes onions or oilseeds.
