"Causal Inference: The Mixtape" (v1.0) is online. Consider this a beta version. Feel free to share it, light it on fire, use it for your class, whatever. It has 108k words, making it slightly shorter than MHE. Criticisms and suggestions are welcome. TY

On this day in 1989 terrorists firebombed The Riverdale Press, the newspaper I edited, to punish it for defending ’s novel The Satanic Verses. Here’s the editorial that sparked such hatred, online for the first time. speech

[Thread] I am particularly excited about my (just out) paper re diffusion processes. It is probably the one time in my career that matched Asimov’s great quote regarding science: (1/17)

70,000 students were arrested at school during the 2013-14 school year alone. Two-thirds were students of color. Not one case where a school police officer intervened and stopped a school shooting.

I was happy to see renewed attention to this type of task esp. after taking over maintenance of a project that has since 2013 offered similar functionality for Record text, 1997-present. And I'm happy to see they're posting code now

Are these effects symmetric? Not necessarily. First, they appear to be stronger when your side is ahead. Second, exposure, at least in 2016, appears to be more likely among liberal audiences. And, the sites hosting forecasts have tended to be shared more by liberal audiences.

Taken in light of the existing research showing lower turnout when one candidate looks very likely to win, this suggests that high prob forecasts may have demobilizing effects on the public.

I tell my students to not compare themselves to other people. Focus on working in a disciplined and efficient fashion with clear priorities. Don't measure productivity in terms of hours, focus on high-quality output for the stage in their career. Prioritize family and exercise.
