Friends, we’ll have some new people from outside of the region visiting for a while. They don’t know our roads and are dealing with a stressful situation. Pls show extra kindness to those with NC plates or from Hampton Roads. They would do the same for you.

Bizarre how Pandora thinks having me pick out songs is an upgrade over them doing it for me.

Just found some music I wrote 15ish years ago for a project with some friends. Nostalgia level: 💯 If you create fun stuff, do yourself a favor and keep track of it. Future you will thank current you.

Is it too late to put the Go generics/exceptions cat back into the bag? Let the Java people have their over-abstracted, look-at-how-smart-I-am designs. Go has been a refuge for people who wanted to get away from all that.

Painkiller-style tech products have an interesting issue to deal with during testing/onboarding: If the user isn't currently experiencing pain, the product may not seem useful.

Case in point: Early versions of have focused on helping users draft blog posts. But most testers don't need to do that at the moment. However, there's a good chance most have some emails they've been avoiding writing.

So what's the alternative? I'd offer: identifying repressed pain. Finding frustrating/annoying tasks that the user has been avoiding, but your product can help with immediately.

You can choose to ignore this and just focus on finding people who are actively feeling pain, but you risk losing a lot of users who would benefit if they'd found the product at the right time.

Really enjoying 's new legal thriller. High-profile defendant, international intrigue, even a pre-trial change of venue fight. Best of all, it's set right here in Alexandria! Great stuff so far.

This reminds me of my idea to set up a nonprofit that patents a bunch of horrifically evil future tech ideas and sues any entity that tries to create them.

Today I learned: The word Wednesday is derived from the Old English Wōdnesdæg, which translates to 'Odin's day', and Thursday is from þursdæġ, which translates to 'Thor's day'. Happy Thor's day!
