Many pointing out the lies of Brexiters This is a public good, and it should be done But as always, until it matters to people that they are being lied to, then such exposures are sadly insufficient by themselves That is the problem to solve

You wanna understand 'why Trump won' and why he might win *again*? The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media. The media.

Just a non-spoiler note about The Good Place: Schur has explained that he basically got told after Parks & Rec that NBC would do whatever he wanted, and he used it to make a weird, nutty show about moral philosophy. If you ever get a free fat pitch over the plate, swing hard.

So, I’m a screenwriter. One of the most important lessons you learn as a screenwriter is how language choice informs character. And there’s a few language choices in here that speak volumes.

Elizabeth Warren’s response to “What do you think your 18-year-old self would think of you now?” is honestly one of the most moving responses I’ve ever heard from a presidential candidate. (1/6)

I know I've tweeted this before but: it is *fantastically* irresponsible for the WHO to be saying this! If it convinces 10 people to quit vaping, and *just one* of them goes back to smoking, it will probably do twice as much harm as it does good ()

I’m pleased to present the flame-bait sequel to my previous blog post: “No, dynamic type systems are not inherently more open.” (Please send me your hatemail at your earliest convenience.)

I've had something on my mind lately, and I want to share it. If you've ever been part of a group of people that went through something difficult together, don't lose touch with each other. You may not realize how crucial those relationships are until it's too late. A story:

Americans think of the “swing voter” as older whites swinging between voting GOP + Dem. I’m writing a series of essays recognizing the : people of color + young people swinging between voting Dem + not voting—and swinging elections, too. 1/

I’m really loving the small but important trend of media earnestly and sincerely endorsing human goodness. The Good Place and Death Stranding have almost nothing in common on the surface, but they’re both so clearly trying to be a light in the darkness and it gives me life.

'91. My professors said an invasion of Iraq wld ignite a fire that'd burn the rest of our lives. In town, a man burned himself to death in protest. As we stared, stunned, at his ashes, frat boys screamed w/ joy. Bush 1 claimed victory. Bush II claimed victory. It's still burning.

There’s a reason our Constitution grants Congress the power to declare war: Every American may be intimately affected by a violent conflict. Soleimani was evil. But our system demands consent for war from the people, acting through their representatives and senators in Congress.

Jesus FUCKING christ this is irresponsible bullshit. The Y2K bug didn't end up causing widespread problems, not because it wasn't real, but because EVERYONE IN THE INDUSTRY WORKED THEIR ASSES OFF. This is like antivaxxers saying "no one dies from polio, obvs we don't need vax".

I remind people every year: If you're giving someone a console for the holidays, today: - Open it up (CAREFULLY. Save all the packaging.) - Set it up - Boot it - Update it and configure it - Install a few games (especially if they're digital) - Pack it back up and wrap it.

Subtweeting the world: Science is a process. It is a tool for uncovering answers to questions. If you start treating the things science describes— like darwinian evolution, or sexual dimorphism— as *morally good*, and not just things that exist, you have gone badly wrong.

Auto exhaust kills 50,000 people in the US every year. The US consumed 140 billion gallons of gas last year. If we lowball estimate the value of a human life at $2 million, the gas tax sufficient for correcting for just this one externality is 71 cents.

salute to the maniac who brought a box of golf balls to and has been slowly rolling them down the rows of seats. That’s a super weird bit of low-key anarchy and I love it.
