I've been married 20 years and it's been lovely. but obviously marriages for many people are pretty nightmarish.

but yeah, there's cultural factors, but one big thing which has reduced marriage among young people is that young people are much less well off. want more marriages? eliminate student debt.

I would like nothing better than to get married but my fiancée is in another country and both our countries have horrible attitudes to immigration. Not that I'm bitter oh wait yes I am

This is why young adults/adults aren't getting married. Loss of trust in the system. We know we can't take on the debt/stress of marriage/having kids. Politicians are going to act like it's about individual issues when it's systemic.
