there are a couple problems with wanda's moral arc but one big one is that the violence and the reasons for the violence don't link up well metaphorically.

there would be a lot more resonance if she transformed that military set up where they were holding vision, right? so she's manipulating all the people who had stolen her husband's body.

then they're not innocent and she's not innocent and you're talking much more directly about revenge for trauma and how justifiable that is or is not.

as it was it just felt like it was too divorced from any kind of actual moral dilemma to have any stakes. okay she just accidentally mind controlled a bunch of people because of grief and not knowing her own strength...

that seems sufficiently disconnected from any situation we're likely to face that I don't really feel a need to have a strong moral opinion about it?

Does she not know? She doesn't know at first, but there's some degree of denial anyway.

I think she fights knowing every episode of the show. She doesn't fully understand until the last episode, but if she'd wanted to think it through, it'd be pretty clear. Like that Tupperware in the fridge that you know has gone moldy but until you open it you can ignore.

It's a parallel perhaps to how the military was seeking to manipulate Vision- controlling his body in the end even beyond his death.

I think the idea was to show how people convince themselves that they’re doing good when they’re not. Wanda says she was supposed to be making people happier, but deep down that’s just how she convinces herself that her actions are okay.

but is she engaged in motivated reasoning? or does she just flat out not know what she's doing?
