anyway. I'm a little bitter for getting dumped on for saying that this sort of thing happens to kids all the time, but a lot more bitter about the fact that this sort of thing happens to kids all the time.

It’s honestly weird that the takes that get you a rash of shit are invariably the ones that are 100% and fairly undeniably correct.

I think part of it is the isolation. The power dynamics of age/knowledge are unavoidable, but the more adults there are the less power each individual has. Another adult in the house would have showed the poor kid how to use a tin opener if she asked.

Another adult is probably going to look at your crying, hungry child and ignore the stupid power play. The more trusted, close adults you have, the more likely that is.

I think maybe it was easy for some folks to reflexively react to the phrasing of the original tweet or something, but it really is an important point, as the threads tonight have illustrated

It does, not in my own childhood but in so many of my friends'. One of my friends has repeatedly made your point about kids' total lack of recourse, including his personal experience, but I don't see others talking about this power dynamic and how society could be different.

Anyway, I'm sorry that people are so shaken by the point that they're dumping on you. But thank you for speaking up.

I find myself dismissing how hard it is for my kid to do things the first time. It's hard for parents and kids right now. We both are used to a lot of other people involved in our learning and doing. I'm trying to just be with her. Being is underrated and misunderstood Just be

My spouse and I are parents and were both abused as kids, neither of our cases of abuse seeing anything like consequences for the abusers -- in fact, they are systemically protected by being police officers. What you said did not seem controversial in the slightest.
