the pandemic has been really hard on our daughter. remote school is miserable and wearing. she can't see friends, has lost out on tons of opportunities. I think that's the case for a lot of young people. 1pic.twitter.com/U4PaXuztWy

people can't see their families and loved ones. many people have lost jobs. there's a lot of fear and anxiety. and that's not counting many people (more than 1 million now) who have lost friends or loved ones.)

I know Mandel is an awful person, and she just says these things to be hurtful. but yeah. it's an awful thing to say.

not just because covid, but definitely in part because of covid, this year has a good claim on being the worst year of my life. and a lot of people had it a lot worse than me.

I don't know how you convince yourself that the right thing to say right now is, "no one is actually suffering."

Mandel is sometimes singled out as being a reasonable conservative too; someone we should be friends with despite differences of opinion.

I'm not super interested in being friendly with people who just mock people for suffering in the worst natural disaster in more than a century.

My kiddo graduated from high school with a phone call, left her $500 prom dress hanging in the closet, and is now frosh in a partyless virtual university world.

You did a fairly poor job quantifying “really hard”. Like she said, most of us have had some strain, but many have lost their livelihoods and loved ones. Thankful that your family, have only seen disruption and not tragedy.

We've been luckier than most, but we've lost income and my spouse hasn't seen his family in exactly a year. His grandma is 93. I got a medium bad case of COVID. Missing our honeymoon was the least of our worries. Sounds nice for that lady, though.
