just re looking at Andray's comments, because I do respect him a lot and think he's a good faith interlocutor. I still don't see a ton that's useful there though.

He just denies that anyone thinks class is more objectively true/more important than race in any straightforward way. But my mentions for the last two days shows that isn't true at all.

In fact, in his mentions, people are insisting that class is not an identity, distinguishing it from other forms of oppression. It's the same thing, "this is real, that is less so."

then he criticizes me for not discussing more complicated theories/discussions of how class and race interact. but that wasn't the point of the piece.

it's a useful thing to do! lots of people have done it well. I was trying, much more narrowly, to explain why prioritizing class as a theoretical concept, or as a basis for organizing, or as a moral precept, is confused and wrong.

he didn't like my use of Dangerously Divided either, I presume because he doesn't think Black support for the D party against Trump is meaningfully left?

he didn't elaborate though. I just disagree with him there though. defeating fascism is a worthy left goal, and the country would be way further to the left if Black voters won elections more often than white voters, rather than vice versa.

anyway. it's never great being insulted and dismissed by someone you respect, but these things happen. I still think Andray is worth reading and listening to, even if we don't agree here.
