I love the original series star trek, but the rhetoric around racism mostly treats it as a cognitive error which can be solved with more knowledge/empathy, which is not really how anything works, imo.

later series did better, but in Kirk's show it's pretty clear that they think they've solved racism by having a couple of people of color in subordinate positions while the narrative is mostly given to white guys, one of whom is cosplaying as an alien.

again, I love the show! there are lots of great things about it, and at times it managed to be insightful within, or even occasionally get around, its limitations. but Kirk really was not always right.
