sort of tricky. Columbia is the obvious one, but naming more things after a genocidal monster seems not great. saw someone suggest Lincoln. Tubman would work. Douglass.https://twitter.com/profmusgrave/status/1269452146904268800 …

ultimately you've got to feel that people of DC should get to name it whatever they want. they've gone long enough without a voice in their own affairs.

In the tradition of West Virginia; East Washington.

Bah! If they want “Virginia” in the name, VA would have to cede back the 61 sq miles of Alexandria county they grabbed from DC in the 1800s. Least creative options (besides Columbia) would probably be Potomac or Georgetown.

I mean, Washington gets a state. No love for Lafayette? What about Kościuszko? or The Great State of Reeves, after Bass Reeves, who had nothing to do with Washington DC, but was a magnificent human.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_Reeves …

Please. Please no. It’s already frustrating enough when Indiana pops up when I’m looking for local businesses.
