someone was arguing that victims should be able to speak, but people in the US/politicians shouldn't. but that doesn't seem respectful either? "okay, you can talk, but we're not going to listen to you or acknowledge your suffering because it's politically inconvenient."
anyway. obviously events in Iraq and Iran are interpreted in the states by people who know and care little about events on the ground and are instead focused on domestic politics, primary campaigns, etc.
