Corbyn used antisemitic tropes and fumbled bizarrely when asked to repudiate antisemitism directly.

He was also smeared by right which wanted to conflate support for palestinians with antisemitism. But majority of Jewish people in UK were uncomfortable with his antisemitism, polls indicate. It's insulting to say that they were just bamboozled.

it goes along with his inability to speak clearly against Brexit, or to see why it was xenophobic and racist at its core.

he wasn't sufficiently antifascist. and it ended up being a huge anchor for him and for the left in the UK.

like, popping into my mentions to support Corbyn by fulminating about the slanders of "British Zionists" is kind of underlining the problem.

why not just identify the Tories or conservatives as the slanderers? that's who went after Corbyn mainly.

when your party is in the throes of a massive public scandal around antisemitism, it's best to avoid the appearance of dogwhistles. and it's not that hard!

now I'm thinking about this...all Zionists aren't Jews, all Jews aren't Zionists. If I know you and know we're on the same page about this, then yes, it could be fine to talk about why Zionists are wrong, or have launched a bad political program in some context.

but there are a lot of contexts on this not very pleasant website where "Zionists" is a dogwhistle for Jews, and if I don't know you, you should probably carefully explain yourself if using it in an ambiguous context.

you may say, well that sucks, that's tedious. but taking a minute to repudiate antisemitism is worthwhile, both in itself and in this case because it's a way to protect palestinian solidarity from charges of antisemitism.
