as Kate Manne explains, misogyny is policing of women (and sometimes others) on behalf of patriarchy. It isn't about what misogynist's feel. It's about what is done to people who challenge patriarchal norms or ideas. Misogyny is keeping women in their place.

You called out one of arc digitals own writers in this, and that reminds me - whenever i see arc digital its emails from medium about new articles which invariably are some edgy reactionary nonsense about PC run amok or whatever. Since when do they run leftie articles?
they run a fair amount of writing by left folks; several of the editors are left (@NGrossman81 @RVAwonk)
To this day, I am yet to hear a coherent defense of Gamergate or its intended purpose.
In no way defending it/part of it - the main claim as I saw was journalistic integrity between devs/journalists, and called out some devs (primarily female)/journalists who had a quid pro quo relationship for favorable access/reviews. But that was QUICKLY enveloped by misogyny.
