Yes, completely. I believe the main driver of startup creation and capital accumulation generally, is ego, not impact. In today’s world, impact is not capital constrained.

There's major confirmation bias going on there. Founders will say starting companies is what drives impact because that's the path they've chosen and everyone wants to think they're making a difference. Also, writing books is harder than starting/building companies in some ways.

Maybe there's an interesting (mental) gap between what impacts you and how you think you can impact others? I feel like that with open source: users understand how much it's important but it doesn't mean they will contribute? The consumer/producer mindset is hard to get

Realized I did this for a lot of things: like knowing podcasts were helpful to me but taking a long time to think it was possible to do one until we tried. Or deciding to so open source full time. Maybe need more exemplars.
