Once you stop listening to everyone and everything, you may no longer have such a strong desire to be rewarded in the first place.
If you want to be rewarded, you have to be irreplaceable. If you want to be irreplaceable, you have to be unique. If you want to be unique, you have to be authentic. If you want to be authentic, stop listening to everyone and everything else. It’s drowning “you” out.

You can be irreplaceable but not rewarded (mothers love may or may not be rewarded by kids) You can be unique but replaceable (nobody will pay extra for your Mongolian stamp collecting hobby) You can be authentic but not unique (in fact, non-authentic people are loud but rare)

Being irreplaceable is the MINIMUM condition to be rewarded - it doesn't gaurantee the reward. You can't have the reward by being replacable though. Similar logic for the next ones.

This realization is why I stopped reading “how I did it” memoirs several years ago. I set a book down midway though. It had occurred to me that nobody who makes money explaining ‘how’ they became successful, did so by copying the path of others.

Definitely learn from the experience of others. Absorb their wisdom. Be inspired. But in the end, make your own path, then share lessons you’ve learned.
