in the mountains, higher levels, i found a few times absolutely loneliness and absolute silence. especially the latter is an insane experience.

I never understood the type of returns one gets from meditation. I hear about a clean head and all I can associate it is the feeling of peace when in nature. Is it that? I don't really understand how one realizes he's "there" (of course there's no endgame but has made progress).

People fear the places the undistracted mind might wander too. Much of what people describe as boredom is in fact a fear of stillness. Distraction lets us fill our minds with other voices so we don’t have to listen to the inner voice that whispers truths we fear to confront.

Boredom is a defense mechanism to avoid having to sit alone with our unaddressed thoughts.
