1/ Bitcoin development suffers from the "free-rider problem".
A bunch of people got really upset with @naval for pointing this out recently. I think he's articulating a reasonable characterization of a problem we collectively face in accelerating future Bitcoin development.

Would you consider late stage / pure check writing VC’s as free risers in founders’ businesses?
-
Nope. The investors’ money goes directly to pay the founders and employees, who are compensated for their time. They aren’t expected to work for free.
-
This whole thread is a slight to the countless devs who work on bitcoin for free or are otherwise self-incentivized. How does this model account for their behavior? Are they just principled? Perhaps there is an allure to working on a project with no leader

We see just fine, Naval. It was a strawman and you implied we were all part of that set. Don’t double down by pretending you were misunderstood and that people mocking you were in the meanness of experience, “triggered” and thus petulantly and childishly retaliating.

So let's take a different argument, what about open source where devs are only who putting efforts and the companies making profit out of it .In this case whole tech is having a economic free riding on open source. Open source struggling for money while companies making billions.
-
Think of funding a startup which has to build every single tech in house. While talking about Bitcoin devs, shouldn't we also consider those open source projects which Bitcoin using? Example - What about C++, which Bitcoin use for free.. isn't it a economic free riding?
-
Incentivise creations and contribution "Ideally" is the ultimate hard problem. Tokenizing "every thing" can help to solve this problem because then measurment will be easy and tracked. Your views?
-
@GetGitcoin you should aim to solve this problem (I think you already), funding open source and proper inventive for devs and all kind of contributors will really help..

This implies hodling is "free riding" which I think the bitcoin community agrees is not free riding. This is the crux of why the bitcoin community and
@naval don't get along. These are two very different views of economic theory. -
Both of which have not really correctly been implemented in the real world anyway. Which is why a lot of this argument is academic until there's more real world testing. But Keynesian hasn't been working out so... Why not something new?

Or it could have been that your jargon was completely and utterly misapplied and incorrect.pic.twitter.com/YhzgtFyQGb

You're a smart guy Naval but I think you're wrong here. Unless "free-riding" in the economics arena means something vastly different than other venues. Label it jargon as you wish - it's still rather condescending. We all make mistakes though...
