This beautiful snow bunting is puffed up to stay warm. Birds fluff up their feathers to trap as much air between their feathers as possible, with the air warmed by their body heat. The more air a bird traps, the warmer it is!

Looking for ways to
#MakeSpaceforNature? Why not be a lazy gardener and leave some areas of the garden overgrown or filled with leaves and twigs to give a quiet place for insects, frogs, toads and small mammals to hide throughout the winter. http://www.nature.scot/makespace pic.twitter.com/eX5V8Nra6Z

The days are becoming lighter - hooray! so why not use the mid term school break to look ahead to spring. A great way to
#MakeSpaceforNature is to put up a new bird box ready for nesting. A great idea to get the kids involved! Let's see your designs. http://www.nature.scot/makespace pic.twitter.com/Lod7NAEGRQ

The wonders of sea life up close! We love this amazing picture of the arm of a spiny starfish. Like other starfish, spiny starfish are adept predators, preying on molluscs, crustaceans & even other starfish.

This is how we feel Monday mornings too! This sleepy fellow is a common seal, one of two types of seals found in Scotland. About 40% of all grey seals live in UK waters – and a whopping 90% of this number live off Scotland.
