what is failure in science really? not able to get grants or hypothesis not working out? although if we were more open about publishing negative data, i wouldnt call the later a failure.

Agree. Negative data can be just as informative. Other scientists will be able to build on this evidence to make better hypotheses

Obviously you’ve not listened to my lectures in which I describe the process in its entirety. For me failure is an integral part of, & fuel for, my creativity - indeed being rejected or criticized well can unlock a totally new & ultimately successful approach.

So true. Failure isn’t a destination. It’s a method for learning. It’s constant for the curious. It’s tiring and requires our most creative thinking. I hate it and love it.
