I used to draw so much more as a med student, but I still rely heavily on “muscles training the mind” and handwritten notes. Has anyone on found a good way to digitize their doodles?

Chronic PICU patient. Some fever. Some tachypnea. Cultures. Antibiotics. The uushz Mom pulls me aside. ‘Something is really wrong’ she says. I go to pt and realize mom has just identified a near arrest. She ‘saw’ a pH of 7.0 before any of us. This job is so forking humbling

Ask hospitalized pts if they are walking daily, and if not, why. Otherwise, when you have resolved the medical issues, you may discover they haven’t walked in a week and are too deconditioned to go home. Discharge planning begins at admission!

Supervising a med student’s first burr hole last night was one of the most satisfying things I’ve done in residency. The day to day grind sometimes makes me forget just how cool my job is, but seeing his excitement was a needed reminder.

Fascinating 1942 paper describing original Girdlestone surgery, which Dr Girdlestone (who treated World War I vets & was 1st British ortho professor) created for hip tuberculosis. If the pics don’t give you nightmares, keep in mind this is pre-antibiotics.

Public service announcement for Today my OCD in the OR paid off. Before opening implants I check sizes / dates on boxes w/ rep & RN. Before implanting I also confirm size on the implant itself Today a 58mm liner came out of a 60mm box

I've always wondered about this. Our approach to prevent surgical site infections is much like the drunkard searching for the lost keys under the street lamp. Not to undermine the role of periop measures, but surely there is more to it.
