Like why adopt the position that the 1400 dollar new payment you are pushing for technically should be called a “2k check” and spend time trying to explain that rather than just trying to maximize the amount of relief payments?

What I don’t understand is why Dems AREN’T pushing for $2000 checks. Yes you can argue that a new payment added to an old payment makes a sum total of 2k and thus “counts” but since we all agree direct payments have been inadequate why not just demand 2k instead?

a reminder: your company will always tell you that you won't earn more if you unionize. this is almost certainly false. union workers earn much more, bc organized workers are in a better negotiating position. make sure everyone at your workplace knows this. unionize, earn more.

just like opponents of medicare for all tell you about the tax increases without telling you that the absence of premiums means you will have much more $$ at the end of the day, opponents of unions go "BUT YOU'LL PAY DUES" and don't tell you what union wages are like

TEN DAYS. It’s been ten days since Biden was inaugurated and reports are emerging that a drone strike in Somalia occurred last night. Who’s surprised? Not me. Here’s what we DON’T know about Biden’s lethal strike policy. Hint: it’s everything.

Article makes clear that Boris Johnson’s conservative government “succeeded” largely by not trying to impose its conservative ideology on the problem and letting an institution it wants to destroy (the NHS) actually do its job.

Why is the UK succeeding so well at vaccinating people? Because it has a giant socialized healthcare system which turns out to be exactly what you need to deliver services efficiently to the general public.

Not a new insight but man it is really hard to shake the sort of background music in my brain that currently-existing nation states have been relevant units of analysis through all of history. Like you throw some lines on a map and that idea burrows so deep.

One of the best things about running a magazine is that if an editor says “what if the West Wing, but with crows” you can say “yes, we will hire an artist and turn that into something”
