This morning @coincenter sent out a call for an economist willing to study Bitcoin's energy usage and issue a report that would "offer justification for the energy expenditure."pic.twitter.com/nFgT7mjc7x

One industry expert responded by questioning why a report from an economist was necessary if @coincenter knew what the conclusions would be ahead of time.pic.twitter.com/owCcC72lPM

The energy spent securing the btc blockchain is simply worth it. Consider the value of the blockchain in that way - an ownership settlement layer for myriad of assets - obsoleting how many energy guzzling organizations that serve the market in those roles today.

Point 3 is the one that irritates me, they make out that the high energy use will be an incentive to find cheaper energy. Like a highly inefficient car is an incentive to find cheaper fuel... ?

Many bitcoin mining centers use cheap hydro power. Hydro dams are always on A percentage goes to the line, some into storage batteries, once they are full they have to use remaining energy. They then pump water back up hill to expend unused energy. Wind turbines are just shut off

Perhaps @Coincenter will also make a long-overdue reference to the Paris Agreement, and its principle of Common But Differentiated Responsibilities. Most of what bitcoiners have produced so far is rebuttal and side-step, while industry and finance increasingly embrace #ESG.
