My paid email course just hit $50k in revenue. If you're an industry expert an email course is such an underrated product. They are: 1. Easy to create 2. Focused on your writing 3. No design or special tools needed 4. No ongoing obligation on your time Here's how to make one:

I wanted to write about advanced money advice for creators, but with a full-time job building ConvertKit I couldn't justify a big up-front time investment or an ongoing commitment. That rules out recurring newsletters, video courses, ebooks, etc.

So I made a paid email course. It has two components: 1. An email sequence (I started with 6 emails) that goes out every Friday morning. Each person starts at the beginning and gets them in order. 2. A ConvertKit Commerce product for them to pay with a one-time purchase.

As I write more emails I just tack them on to the end of my evergreen sequence. Everyone queued up at the end gets the latest email on the publish date, new subscribers get the original timing. What started as 6 emails is now 16.

I charged $100 once (later raised to $150), rather than recurring, so I don't have an obligation to write every week. I also under-promise (for a long time the sales page said 6 emails even after I'd added more) so that buyers are excited to receive more.

Here's how to apply it: 1. Find what you're an expert in (short-term rentals, coding in Swift, negotiation) 2. Narrow it down as much as possible (specific newsletters tend to sell better) 3. Create a ConvertKit account, the sequence, and product 4. Write your first 4 emails

Then you can start promoting it on Twitter, your email footer, and anywhere else you have an audience. As you feel inspired start to add more to it. As it gets more valuable, raise the price. Incorporate feedback to improve the first few issues.

You can do all this without filming a course, hiring designers, writing an entire book, or anything else that may distract from your work as an industry professional. The extra money is great for your hobbies or as a way to dip your toe into earning money as a creator.
