I truly believe clear writing is the single most important skill in business.
My writing made me a prime candidate for someone to connect with at a conference.
If you want to build quality relationships at conferences, sharing your ideas with the world is a great start!

2. Make A Must-Connect List
Attending a conference without a list of people you want to meet is like Nick Saban showing up on game day without a plan.
You need to do pre-conference homework.
Look at who’s attending and create a list of people you want to talk to.

3. Do Your Research
Once you have your must-connect list, spend time researching each of the people you want to talk to.
• Where do they live?
• What do they do for work?
• How do they spend their time outside of work?
Most of this info can be found via social media.

4. Introduce Yourself Before The Conference
Does the conference have a Slack channel or online community?
If so, post in it and introduce yourself.

5. Host A Meetup
People often show up early for conferences and don’t know what to do.
Find another attendee and coordinate a pre-conference meetup before the opening party.
It doesn’t need to be anything too fancy.
Just a casual place for everyone to hang out and meet.

6. Go Talk To People
I’m an introvert.
At the 1st conference I went to, I barely talked to anyone.
Later, I forced myself to join groups and introduce myself.
I wouldn’t have met and had I not forced myself to talk to people.

7. Follow Up
The biggest mistake people make after attending conferences?
Not following up with the people they meet!
Following up allows you to keep the momentum going.
