    Our mission has always been to help creators in a living. Now we can truly support ALL creators, not just those who can afford a premium service. This has been in the works for 3 years and I couldn't be happier to finally have the first version live.

    Right now we aren't worried about our free to paid conversion rate. Only 22 of those 10k have upgraded to paid. In 6 months we'll put attention there. For now it's all about a big push to our goal of 500,000 creators using the free version of ConvertKit in 2020.

    Our other big challenge is to create more incentives and improve the process for inviting more creators. In January 16% of our accounts came from invites, we want to increase that to 25% in February. The 22% invite acceptance rate could be higher with better copy & design.

    One key realization is that creators still only think of ConvertKit as an email platform, not email AND landing pages which it now is. We have hundreds of beautiful landing pages being created every day. It will just be a lot of work to spread that message far and wide!

    So we differentiated our free plan in two key ways: 1. It doesn't include automations or sequences 2. It doesn't include chat support With those 2 main differences between free and paid we've only seen a contraction of about $6,000 in MRR in the last month.

    The next key stat is downgrades. We have nearly 9,000 paying creators with under 100 subscribers. That represents almost $250,000 in MRR. While we wanted to offer a way for new creators to grow their audience for free, we didn't want to risk so much MRR and operate at a loss.

    A week ago we released another method where creators can just share an invite URL on public channels (rather than entering email addresses). This has resulted in 772 visits (We need to get conversion data added to Periscope here). We expect that to drive far more over time!

    A key part of our strategy is to build in an invite system where we reward creators with +100 subscribers managed for free for every friend they refer. We've had 1,848 creators send 7,381 invites. Of those 1,666 have turned into accounts for a 22% acceptance rate.
