Bullying DOTs being terrible is one of the better uses of this site, imo

Improperly painted crosswalks give a false sense of safety which puts pedestrians in danger. There are better ways for people to work w/ us to indicate crossing improvement needs & to make sure changes achieve what is intended -- get people to their destinations safely. (2/2)

I got served Yes on J ads on an another platform (one that also happens to sell blue check marks) the day before the election. I also got 3 NO on O/M ads for each Yes on J. I'm assuming it was the same ad buy.

One of the most anti-J precincts was also one of the most pro-Engardio ones. Going all in on tough-on-crime rhetoric might win a single election but it makes for very bad coalition if you support things like more housing, car-free spaces and public transit.

Nice use of a horizontal bar chart

A remarkable race. Kenneth Mejia in Los Angeles ran for the obscure office of city controller... and made it all about a public education drive about how much LA is spending on policing. Including taking out billboard to show graphs. He's up 60%/40% rn. boltsmag.org/los-angeles-ci
SFMTA has done a partial installation of plastic bollards on Middle Drive without opening the one way road so cars are just driving back on the "car-free" side head on to people on bikes, etc. coming down the hill at speed.

Twitter laid me off today. If you know of any open positions for project managers or senior software engineers, let me know. I was in charge of the feature that made sure every time you posted about safe routes for kids to cycle to school,a guy would reply not everyone can cycle.

I think this would make SF politics a lot easier to understand for people new to the city or those less engaged.

Blue cities should just have two democratic parties at this point and give up the pretense that we have the same local and National coalitions. It makes no sense that De Leon and Bonin are in the same party in a municipal context. twitter.com/mikebonin/stat…

Not sure what it means but this is the best Wombat chart I've seen today

This is a shocking number but it's in response to Supes telling the MTA they need to do more outreach before making street changes. Supes do this so they don't get yelled at by the neighbors and they can blame the MTA. And then the MTA can say look at all the outreach we did.

Public engagement. The SFTMA estimates 500 staff hours spent on public engagement for installing, for example, a single bulbout.
Table from SFMTA public engagement guidelines. Projects are listed by size and impact. Estimated staff time for example small projects, a bulbout or stop move, is shown as 500. hours.

Dean is one of the only supes that actually leads on transit issues. Props to him for that.

It is unacceptable that our City allows parking in over a thousand bus stops. Totally inconsistent with our Transit First mandate. @SFMTA_Muni should paint the curbs red at every bus stop asap. Let's do this. sfstandard.com/transportation

Another Green Heron, this time at the Lily pond in GG Park. Probably a juvenile, was very small and hunting fish in a relatively open spot beneath the willow tree.

There's provisions for funding e-bikes and related projects but it's not clear if there's any mandates or if those would be an after thought (I didn't read it too closely). The provision for spending on communities most affected by car pollution also seems good.

Prop 30 reminds me how unenthusiastic I am about spending tons of money on EV infrastructure when very little is being spent on alternatives. This funding mix doesn't spark joy.
Pie chart from the California Legislative Analysts Office. Title: Proposition 30 Uses Increased Revenue for ZEV Programs and Wildfire Activities. ZEV= zero-emission vehicle.

Pie chart division: 20% wildfire prevention. 35% Charging stations. 45% Payments to help buy new vehicles.

I was split on 30, and if IRA hadn’t passed I’d support it, but I suspect with so much money dedicated to electric cars, the marginal additional funding is likely to be pretty low value, and given CA lawmakers doing well lately, I think they could spend the money better

How can you not like a good grackle?
Quote Tweet
Most of them have headed south for the winter but there are still a few common grackles hanging around. This male dropped in to remind us that common grackles are very fancy!
