Ah, Philippine politics. 3 weeks before the elections, male presidential bets who have no chance to win the elections have “united” NOT to withdraw their candidacies… but to pull down the only woman candidate who is 2nd in surveys. NOT the frontrunner who is also… a man 👀

A shooting in broad daylight on the day of graduation - a day meant to be for celebration. For someone to feel they could get away with this…this is the culture of violence and impunity institutionalised and normalised in the Philippines over the years. Everything has an impact.

Do you ever get text messages meant for someone else? Maybe sth like "Are you Linda from the pet store?" And because you're nice, you reply and say they got the wrong number. Cindy Tsai, a lawyer, did just that. By the end of it all, she would lose about $2.5 million.

Thank you for the work that you do - keep at it. We shouldn’t tolerate this blatant show of disrespect. This isn’t just an attack on you and your news outlet, but a sign of lack of respect for journalism and media in general. Do not stand for it.

It shouldn’t be this hard to vote. We shouldn’t be waiting in 35 degree heat for 5 hours to cast our ballots. A commission that had 6 years to prepare for the polls shouldn’t be failing us. We shouldn’t be worrying whether our votes are counted fairly. Filipinos deserve better.

So many of us have shed tears during this campaign season - moved by people, by passion, by love for country. No matter what happens tomorrow, I ask that we remember this feeling of hope and fervor. Hold on to it. If we care so deeply this way, every day, no leader can screw us.
