There is a difference between policy, politics, government, and state. Many people are taught in school this structure: The Left, the Right, and then the “government” somewhere up there that does everything. This structure is not correct.

The political parties—Republicans and Democrats—do not form the scaffold of our government. The parties are rather a drapery over the scaffold of state.

When we fight each other on our party affiliations, this is not much different than fighting about which Diving Organization is better, or which Wooden Boat magazine. At the end of the day, there are still diving protocols and wooden boats that exist outside the institutions.
