This is almost frighteningly good; magisterial one might say, if the irony were not so thick. Very well done.

Yes--correct--I want the elites to be better at being elites. I do not think there is something inherent in eliteness that necessitates being a bad ruler or acting in bad faith. There are many things we can do, both on an institutional and a frame-shifting level that would help.

I think another trick elites do is to make America as a whole equivalent with conserve tropes (e.g. monster trucks, guns) even tho such things are rare in liberal enclaves. So they can feel like underdogs on hostile territory, as SSC noted:https://slatestarcodex.com/2014/09/30/i-can-tolerate-anything-except-the-outgroup/ …

I think it's the Gen-X parents who gave up on power. They're out of ideas on how to rule, which is why the US is politically and economically stagnating. And they don't have the discipline and conviction to raise ruling class kids. This elite class will die with the boomers.

“The elite class will die with the Boomers” and that’s a big part of the problem, which is that the elite class is STILL the Boomers despite them having been retirement age for 20 years now.
