  1. Most important PhD advice? Be passionate about what you do but hold your ground. When you are tired, you don’t quit you take a break. Rest is as vital as exertion.

  4. Moral panic in 18th-century feared that exposing young people (particularly women) to dangerous ideas through novels may prompt them to challenge the authority or the rigidity of the social order. Thank God for the novels. H/T ⁦

Another way to ⬇️ emissions: Participating states would require diesel fuel and gasoline wholesalers to purchase carbon credits at auction. Those states would invest the revenue in transit, EV infrastructure, or even promote telecommuting.

Just do the best you can not to take 50 years... but even if you do, no one is going to judge. True victories don’t have timelines.

The study also “found no connection between female self-centeredness and luxury cars.” (had no choice to subtly point this out 😉)

“The cost of a 30-second commercial spot for Super Bowl 54 was about $5.6 million” Can you imagine if these resources were allocated to more noble causes as opposed to giving us very unstable rush of adrenaline?

Positive reinforcement of desired behavior could arguably serve equally well as opposed to collective punishment of undesired behavior. People (and even pets!) tend to respond better to the reward based system. Curious whether it will work. Cc:

If someone says they know you from twitter, it means they took their previous time to read your words- found them impactful enough to remember you and NO that’s NEVER embarrassing or humiliating so be kind. Modestly goes a long way.

I recently had someone start the interview with: “Tell me something about yourself that is not in the CV.” Just this one phrase was able to transform the tone of the conversation and recognized that we’re so much more than our publications.

I was liking this article by on cities getting better by removing cars. And then, read this: "Last year, Robin Chase, the founder of Zipcar, predicted in this magazine that 2019 would be the year of micro mobility – she got it right"
