Lacan was very right in doubting the Chinese had an unconscious. The human mind is of absolute plasticity. It does NOT retain forms fr'over a few generations. Chomsky is a pseudo-intellectual as soon as he dabbles in anything other than linguistics.
Had something to do with their written language containing both signifier and signified. Could have been the Japanese too, not overly familiar with the differences between their respective systems.

Well IIRC they ended up realizing they did actually have an unconscious. Of course it would have been quite different since the fundamentals of language clearly are not the same & the unconscious is structured as a language.
