      I feel the Sophists for the first time separated Truth from Logos, ie. the process of speech, thus making the development of Plato's philosophy conceptually possible.

      Before the Sophists, truth seems inseparable from the process of truthful speech, either as philosophy or religious prophecy. Truth and true speech are one, and truth is opposed to forgetfulness as it solely exists as a spoken process & as the memory of this process.

      Thanks. I feel Pythagoreanism is somewhat of a reaction to this separation of truth and speech, in its attempt to return to a mode of truthful expression which would reunite speech & truth against forgetting, but through the practice of silence & music.
