I'd agree with your opinion on Michelangelo's. But I feel Bernini had to resort to the facial expression to clearly convey what an artist of genius could express with posture. I'd say David is an incredibly complex subject to work with, and Bernini, like others, failed at it.
Why would you want a dead face when you are fighting for you life???? That would look like a bored vaccuous model is posing for something, his body was positioned by a dress maker or photographer, but the face is dead and empty and void of meaning or symbolism????
