#AngloCatholic clerics who pooh-pooh the #39Articles are ashamed of historic #Anglican doctrine and practice.

As the token
#AngloCatholic, I'll also note that if you're reading the 39 articles in such a way that it contradicts the consensus of the faith (which we know from, among other things, councils, practice and Scripture), you're doing it wrong.2 replies 1 retweet 3 likes -

Honestly if we get to the point where we can have a serious discussion on whether Pusey or <insert famous reformed/evangelical Anglican> the 39 articles more rightly we'd be in much, much better shape.

Youʼre the sensible sort of

Do you read Browne on the
#39Articles as an#evangelical or an#AngloCatholic? Or is he just a high churchman?1 reply 1 retweet 1 like -

I would say 'just a high churchman', based on what I've skimmed and his emphasis on both scripture on tradition. The excessively evangelical Anglicans tend to look to continental divines and Cranmer with too much emphasis, while the excessively Anglo-Catholic to Rome.

#Cranmer is good, but so are Ridley and the rest. On the#39Articles, Browne is my go-to rather than Griffith-Thomas.1 reply 1 retweet 1 like -

The example of the type of excess I'm thinking of is an article by an evangelical/reformed Anglican (who identifies as Anglo-Calvinist) who basically said "Anglicans don't appeal to tradition? How do we know, here, let's cite Cranmer." Citing Cranmer *is* appealing to tradition.
