Civilizations do end themselves through positive feedback, where demand overshoots production capacities, resulting in social upheaval & civil war; yet for the first time, a dying civilization might take the earth with it, & secure itself the only tomb worthy of its exorbitance.

Dunno, Byzantines had upheavals and civil wars every 7 years on average and lasted for over 1000 years.

Didn't say upheavals & civil war destroy civilizations (Rome was basically in a state of perpetual civil war for the last 150 years of its republican history & lasted another 500) but rather that when civilizations destroy themselves, it is through social upheavals & civil war.
