Salutation gestures typically bare the wrist with its radial and ulnar arteries. Insulting or obscene gestures typically present the back of the hand and arm, which is more defensible. Can anyone think of counter-examples?

Given the predominance of empty-hand gestures signifying goodwill in other cultures however this is a slightly surprising one, and it appears that it has evolved from a blessing, which would explain it
