Happy to nerd out on this. 1st, it appeared in a popular TV show (main reason for resurgence). 2nd, charting driven by YouTube (relatively recent add. to chart calc). 3rd, nostalgia runs in ~20-30yr cycles (). 4th, its optimally diff from current sounds😉

I’ve already gone down the rabbit hole on this one. It’s excellent, even if you have just a passing interest in Radiohead. Check the very 90s vibes down at the bottom! 2 MTV’s Most Wanted performances??!?

. keeps making each year's interactive recap better. This year, it includes stats on a decade of listening. Shout to for being my most listened-to artist this decade (with other unsurprising entries: FJM, , the Beatles, and )

Good music criticism/writing, like good music, makes general the personal & makes personal the general. This article on Southern Rock does that well. Feels like it could have been written by/about (the Truckers are mentioned).

This is both important & very cool research on the universality of music across societies and cultures. Turns out we’re all singing/humming/composing in a very similar “language.” Computational social science and music(ology) working quite well together…

Well this is kind of awful, IMO. Algorithms shouldn't push artists to compose in a particular manner to avoid skips. "Music makers would be able to “manipulate their audience in a very precise way,” Pachet said."

We don’t need no stinkin’ music critics! The perfect pop song has already been determined by scientists at the Max Planck Institute in Germany. Unfortunately, here are the results.
