There’s a bright haze in the night sky, caused by tiny grains from asteroids and comets, called zodiacal dust. could use exozodiacal dust — the same kind of material in other planetary systems — to study their makeup.

So glad you’re always just a call away, ! Even among all these stars, nothing shines as bright as our friendship. Thanks for congratulating us on our latest mirror alignment milestone! Read about it here: ✨

Black and white comic composed of 2 panels. The top panel resembles the interface of a video call on a desktop. A circular icon representing the Roman Space Telescope is at the center of the screen. Text says: BFF Roman heart emoji is calling. The bottom panel shows the same video call interface for a call in progress. An illustration of the Roman Space Telescope inside the NASA Goddard cleanroom appears to be calling an illustration of the James Webb Space Telescope, which is taking the call against a starry background. A speech bubble from the Roman telescope says: I admire how you're getting focused!

  14. Studying colors can help us learn about our expanding universe. Roman's spectroscopy survey will examine the information in the colors of light that have traveled through space, that will help us see how fast the universe expanded during different eras.

A team of scientists found will be able to measure exozodiacal dust — rocky grains left behind by asteroid and comets. Studying this space dust could help astronomers learn how rocky planets form & help future missions find habitable worlds:

  20. Exozodiacal dust is rocky grains mainly left behind by asteroids and comets. It scatters a host star’s light, creating a bright haze that obscures our view of orbiting planets. Studying this space dust could help future missions find habitable worlds!

  21. This let’s make it a double! Williamina Fleming & Annie Jump Cannon developed a way to classify stars by analyzing their colors. Roman will use this technique to build a vivid 3D map of the galaxies in the universe.
