Sorry that should have read Goldfinch.

The birdies seem to think something is on. Either Spring, judging by the volume of birdsong, or hard weather judging by their feeding frenzy. Here’s a Nuthatch, Siskin and, rarer visitor, a Goldcrest (slightly out of focus and then head in the feeder).

Despite the typo in her name, Sue will be spreading her gardening wisdom at the Hereford Seed Swap on Saturday February 1st. Go along for seeds, spuds and Sue - what a combination!

Double trouble on the pond! Now we can have our own regatta. Our original- 6 year old - one has now been refurbished and joined by an identical e-bay special (Thanks to David Jackman for helping with the rigging). Not enough wind today, but lovely reflections of the trees.

Seeds. Sorting saved ones: not all get so neatly packaged. Some are left hang up to dry in the greenhouse - and then self-sow! Here American Landcress among over-wintering Field Beans. #

  12. If you look on old OS maps you’ll find a Rain Gauge marked in our new field. Now there is a new one in the same place courtesy of Mrs M! Needless to say it has now stopped raining! Three other arty shots of the field as a bonus.

  14. Our home-grown Christmas trees 🎄 seem to have outgrown the house! Never mind, we have a few smaller ones which might do!

  16. We made Christmas wreaths here yesterday. Every year I think I’ll do an “arty” one, but it always ends up very traditional. All materials gathered from our garden, meadow & forest. Smudge assisted.

  18. Badger-proofing our Spring tulips 🌷 Planted in pots, then over-wintered in the compost bins where hopefully the badgers won’t find them! Fingers crossed! Worked last year.

  20. You’ve seen the pics, you’ve read the blog, now you can hear it from the Head Gardener herself. A wonderful new app called Candide features audio tours of many of Britain’s top gardens - so obviously had to include us. You’ll have to download the (free) app then click on Places.
