Looking for a 10 minute introduction to electron microscopes? The talk I gave at is now up. I cover what SEMs and TEMs are, what they are good for, and some more advanced usuage modes for both. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Rotating the scan changes the nature of the noise suggesting a it's directional in nature, so one of the alignment/scan coils or a 160hz field in x or y.

does anything in NMR use 160hz? I'm backed up to a NMR lab with this SEM install...

It's constant scale at different working distances and so it could be from in the electronics or mechanical.

So I should specify I'm looking for something vaugly sine wave here. Specifically the problem is interference causing a ~5 nm defection in the SEMs beam. It's in a field cancelation system so straight up stray field is unlikely.

So anyone have any ideas as to where 160 hz interference would be coming from or common uses for 160 hz?

You never know what you are going to find in an old water chiller... This was *after* I had flushed the tank out as well.

Oh yeah what could possibly go wrong installing a SEM under this bundle of ac.

Tfw you need a 26' truck to move a SEM .5 miles. Literally just down the street.

How to hack together a way of getting a SEM off a vibration isolation platform without any of the right tools: a story in 4 parts. I did have to buy the pallet jack that morning and the person at Home Depot was curious why I needed that much wood cut. It worked great in the end.

And this is what it looks like when no one cares about good cable management.

This is the point ground on a Philips EM400 TEM built in the 70s. They were very adimant when it came to advoiding ground loops.

This is what the water cooled lens driver bays in the JEOL TEMs tend to look like. The JEOL wiring shop really takes pride in their work.

And now to contrast that with the current state of the rest of the control console. I haven't even connected the column and it's already in this mess. All of this is getting pulled out and cleaned.

Apparently I'm done being productive tonight so here is more photos of the wiring on my SEM. might appreciate it.

Carefully thought out cable management is way to satisfying
